I am a self-taught visual artist who has been doing art
since childhood. In 1988-1989 I worked
with a group of artists in Timmins on a Grant Program. We were taught various techniques such as oil
and watercolour painting, printmaking, life drawing, framing and gallery
hanging. I have been a Board Member of
SOYRA, the Society of York Region Artists for over a decade.
My latest technique, (which I have created myself), is in
the category of collage, alternative/mixed media. I use pigment from magazines to create the
shapes and hues in paintings. The
process involves a meticulous cut and paste procedure with a final coat of
Podge Glue. The resulting artwork can be
framed behind glass or not.
I work intuitively, allowing the piece to unravel on its’
own. The detail is in filling in the
colours and shapes to create the final image. In September 2014, nine of my collages were displayed at McAlpine Ford Lincoln in Aurora. At Art Aurora 2014 all of my pieces were
selected by the juror. My artwork, “Rock on” was featured in the Arts
Exposed 2013 Conference in Markham. At
Art Aurora 2013 two of my pieces were selected by the jurors. At Art Aurora 2012 all of my pieces were
selected by the jurors and one piece, Sequoia National Park, California, won First Place in its’ category. My work, “Standing Tall” was selected to be
part of the Love the Teachers, YRDSB Art Show (November 29 – December 16,
2012).
