Collage Making as an Art Form - The Process

I roughly sketch the picture and outline it with thin strips of paper (collage begins). Then I fill in the background using an archival glue stick from Michaels, such as CraftBond.

I begin to fill in sections of my artwork by cutting out pieces of paper from magazines, paying particular attention to the hues needed. In my opinion, it's all about achieving a balance between light and dark.

This meticulous cut and paste procedure continues. At this juncture, I have spent over a dozen hours on the artwork.

It is not until the very end, that the picture becomes apparent (20 hours later). What remains is the final stage - pouring and smoothing a light coat of Podge Glue (archival as well) over the entire surface to seal and protect the finished product. Then it will be named and professionally framed!
